Most Beautiful Villages In Japan That you Should Visit .

Planning a trip can be very confusing, and certainly in such country, where the culture is very rich and nature is very diverse. So choosing the right destinations is very difficult task and very critical to the success of your trip. And to help you do so, we have compiled in this article a list of the Most Beautiful Japanese Villages and Towns recognized by The Association of The Most Beautiful Villages in Japan . 


Otaru | 小樽市

Otaru is a town and port in Shiribeshi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan, northwest of Sapporo. It faces Ishikari Bay and the Sea of Japan, and has long served as the main port of the bay. This town is a very popular tourist destination, mainly known as one of the most famous places in japan to enjoy fresh seafood and by its historical buildings.

The town’s canal is lined with old warehouses and, along with the rest of the prefecture. this area of the town get very crowded with Japanese tourists, but you can find quieter neighborhoods in the center of town. 

The town is particularly beautiful during the Otaru Snow Gleaming Festival in February, when the canal is lined with glowing snow lanterns.

Biei | 美瑛町 

Biei is a town located in the southern part of Kamikawa Sub-Prefecture , on Hokkaidō Island , Japan. It is made up of 70% of forests and 15% of its area is dedicated to agriculture . As of September 2016, the town has an estimated population of 10,374, and a density of 15 persons per km². 

Biei is famous for its views of wide fields and hills, and is used as a backdrop for many Japanese commercials and TV programmes. The bright colours of its fields attract thousands of visitors in July and August. 

The village of Biei is essentially an agricultural commune which produces tomatoes, potatoes, asparagus, rice and wheat. He also maintains a cattle breeding and milk production. The enhancement of the countryside and the exploitation of hot springs allow the development of tourism.

Karuizawa | 軽井沢町

Karuizawa is a town located on an elevated plain at the foot of Mount Asama in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is a popular resort area that provides a pleasant escape from the summer heat for the residents of Tokyo.

Karuizawa has many activities to offer during all seasons of the year, you can go hiking, cycling in summer and you can enjoy ice skating and skiing during the winter.  around mid October to early November each year, you can admire the autumn colors.

On the route through the Shiraito Highland Way, deep in the mountains of Karuizaw, you can find two of the many spots where you can enjoy the views of  beautiful scenery while feeling the nature : " The Shiraito Waterfalls and Kumoba Pond ".

Hida - Takayama | 飛騨市  

Hida - Takayama is a town located in Gifu Prefecture,Japan. known for its 18th-century buildings and narrow streets that are bordered by small canals of running water used for washing clothes and removing winter snow.  

The town is abundant with temples, shrines, traditional shops and Japanese-style inns. In this Town you can feel the old-fashioned Japanese charm .

The majority of it's area is forested, with many mountains exceeding 1 kilometers within it's borders and 2 kilometers in the northeastern edge. These towering mountains overlook a scene of riverside where most of the population is concentrated.

Magome-juku | 馬籠宿

Located in  Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Magome was the forty-third of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō, an ancient road that connected Kyoto and Edo during the Edo period. It was also the last of eleven stations along the Kisoji, which was the precursor to a part of the Nakasendō, running through the Kiso Valley.

The town’s main street is a well-preserved wide stone walkway lined with beautifully restored old buildings.

One Of the most interessting things to do in this town is to hike the five-mile Magome-Tsumago Trail. starting from Magome and ending at the equally beautiful town of Tsumago, you will enjoy all different magical views of  farmland, forest and waterfall that you will pass by .

Furano | 富良野市

Furano is a small city in the prefecture of Hokkaido, Japan, located in the southern reaches of Kamikawa Subprefecture. 

Well known throughout Japan as a tourism destination and specially during the month of July when the town’s fields blossom with a sea of purple lavender. which make it a good place to try and buy lavender-infused products .

Furano Ski Resort is one of Japan's most popular and famous  skiing destinations. During the winter, the resort offers an exciting family oriented snow attractions .
